Libra Guesthouse is a friendly Chiang Mai hostel, great for meeting other travelers

I was impressed by Libra guesthouse. (not just because it's my star sign!) It had a friendly feel to it. Probably the nicest thing for me was how quiet it was. The owner, a warm older man took me to see the rooms and a beautiful garden. There's 48 rooms here but there didn't seem a crowded feel to it like other large hotels I've stayed in. And so peaceful!!

The owner's daughter, Dao, who's English is fluent, helps to bring people together, I felt. I think she likes to see her guests chatting away with her staff and other guests. The guesthouse has been in operation since 1987. All rooms come with a toilet and shower inside.

For 200 baht, you can have a room with a fan and cold shower (you'll need to be strong between November and late January when the temperature is often cold in the morning).

For 300 baht a night, you'll get a fan with a hot shower. For 420 baht, you get hot water, air conditioning and a TV.It's the same price whether it's 1 or 2 people. You can book by email: mail@libraguesthouse.com or telephone: +66 (0)53 210687 There's 24 hour check-in.I'd say it's a good idea to book because the guesthouse is popular and does get full.

There's a restaurant here. You can get Thai food for about 60 baht and a Western breakfast for 80 baht. Stephanie and Grit (pictured), from Germany had been staying here for 5 days. They loved it here and had a fun relationship with Dao. Stephanie (right) said the hotel was 'totally friendly' and the food was 'perfect'. Not bad recommendations!

Overall, I think this is one of the better Chiang Mai guesthouses. A good place to meet other travelers and the garden wouldn't look out of place in a five star hotel.
