1) Mut Mee Garden Guest House - Popular, sociable, with great garden and tree area, right by the Mekong River.Rooms: Dorm 100 baht/night, 200/300/400 baht up to 700 baht a night. (opens in new window)

2) Khiang Khong Guest House - Great location near to the river with clean, comfortable rooms priced at 300/400 baht per night.. (opens in new window)

3) Ruan Thai Guest House - Friendly place with a sociable area, lots of plants and trees. Rooms: 200-400 Baht. (opens in new window)

4) Pikul Apartment - Large, clean rooms on a quiet street, close to the river. Frendly owners. Rooms: Fan 400/500 Baht a night (fan/AC) weekly 10% discount. Monthly 30% discount. 5 monthly - 4000/5000 per month. (opens in new window)

5) Banmaa Home Stay - Lovely swimming pool. 3km from the town center so hire a bicycle! Rooms: 200/400 Baht per night (fan/AC) . (opens in new window)

6) Sawasdee Guest House - Old style wooden house has a feel from a bygone age. 100 meters from the river. Rooms: 140 - 450 Baht. (opens in new window)

7) E-San Guest House - Wooden rooms very close to the Mekong River. Rooms: 200-450 Baht a night. (opens in new window)

8) Mekong Guest House - Great location by the river with comfortable rooms priced between 250 and 800 baht nightly. (opens in new window)

9) "Room for Rent' - Thai style houses/rooms close to the river. Must stay for longer than a week. Price: 1050 baht a week, 3000 Baht per month. (opens in new window)

10) Rimkhong Guesthouse - Just opposite the river in a peaceful location. Nice garden area and homestay feel. 15 Cheap rooms - 140/200 Baht per night (one/two people)

12) Pantawee Hotel - Quite large, popular hotel, five minutes walk from the river. Rooms range in price from 500 to 2,000 Baht a night. First hotel I've seen that has a PC in the room so you can surf the net. Also has TV and DVD player. Have a look at their website: .www.pantawee.com (opens in new window) - their penthouse room for 2,000 baht actually looks great value, with a jacuzzi and large area. 13) Mama's Place Guesthouse - On quite a busy street but a close walk to the river. Rooms 180 - 400 Bat per night with TV.

14) Janhom - On a quiet street - Rooms look nice on the website...www.janhom.com (opens in new window) - priced between 450 and 900 baht a night - some very cheap rooms if you stay in the apartment rooms...only 75 US dollars a month/ 130 dollars US a month (fan/AC). 15) P.K Guesthouse - Just next to the Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge underpass so about 2 or 3 kilometers from the center of Nong Khai - On a busy road. Close to the dry season beach for inner-tubing out on the river. Fan Rooms: 200/250 Baht per night (one/two people). Air-conditioned rooms: 300 baht a night. 16) Sam Oar Guesthouse - On a fairly busy road, this modern looking hotel is popular with Thais...there's no English translation on their website...www.samoarnkcity.com (not working in April, 2010) The air-conditioned rooms with hot water bathroom, TV and wifi access cost 360 baht per night. Tel: +66 (0)42 421176 (good luck if you speak to them in English!!).

17) Khong River Hotel - Just next to Sam Oar Guesthouse, the same can be said! On quite a busy road, the staff don't seem to speak English and the rooms which I didn't get a chance to see cost 360 baht nightly. Tel: +66 (0)42 411277

18) Pantawee Resort - Nice looking hotel right next to the river....away from the road so not noisy. Popular with Thais, especially at the weekend. Rooms, 400/500 Baht per night.

19) Jommanee Guesthouse - I was getting tired so I didn't make the effort to see this place. Looked a pleasant road down to the guesthouse which has to be near the river. Rooms: 350/500/800 baht per night.

20) Royal Mekong NongKhai Hotel - The largest hotel in Nong Khai with 208 rooms. Good position next to the river, yet a long way to travel into town. Swimming pool here costs 100 baht or non-guests. Rooms 1,200 - 5,000 baht per night. 21) Amazon Guesthouse - The road starts to get quieter by the time you get to this guesthouse that you reach by going down a small road towards the river. Again, too tired to visit! Rooms: 250 - 500 Baht a night. Having looked at their website: www.amazon-guesthouse.com (not working in April, 2010), I like the look of the huts they have. 22) Royal Jommanee Hotel - Large hotel (doesn't look....beautiful!) Rooms: 950 - 1250 baht per night.

23) Jommalee Guest house - spelt with an 'l', not an 'n'. Good location, very close to the river on a quiet street, just opposite E-San Guest House. A nice wooden building but there wasn't anyone there for me to talk to so I have no information about the price! I'll try to call them one day and ask the price. You could beat me to it!
