Phu Wua Mountains and Wildlife Sanctuary is situated more than 100 kilometers east of Nong Khai. See the north-east section of this Isaan map.
I was in Nong Khai during this festival - I didn't reach beneath the surface as all I saw was a busy night market area for 10 days!
