Thailand Tourist Information

Transport

Thailand's transport system is, on the whole, very good. In the south and south-east Asian region, I'd say only Malaysia and Singapore have better transport. Main roads tend to be in excellent condition so journey times by car or bus throughout the country are relatively quick. For instance, a 700 kilometer journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai will take about 10 hours, involving 1 or 2 short stops and generally one long stop. Trains are a bit slower but being able to lie fully down for overnight journeys often makes the journey feel shorter. And, of course, there are frequent flights to and from the major cities and towns. Airasia.com and Nokair.com are 2 very popular budget airlines with a good safety record.
